An Uncharted Future
First off, I’m not a writer. In fact, even though I am an associate pastor in a Baptist church, I don’t feel like a minister either. Many of the things I have learned over the years as a Baptist minister are things that are not attractive to postmodern Christians or the postmodern “unchurched.” I find myself having to explore really closely the postmodern world and determine what it looks like to be a follower of Christ and attract postmodern individuals to Christianity. With this in mind, I fancy myself more of an explorer than anything else. I am exploring what the Church (with a big C) needs to be for the postmodern world; I am exploring if denominations are important; I am exploring if going to one place for worship is desirable or even necessary; I am exploring the importance of the Jesus of my parents and their parents and whether that Jesus is applicable to seekers today. I consider myself an explorer… and in fact, I have come to the conclusion that if I bring my tendencies towards exploration to this new idea of a postmodern church, I might just tap into what it means to be a Christian in a new and uncharted future.
